Some of the fastest cars in the world are sports cars. Because many of them are so high-tech, it’s understandable that they’re expensive. However, some sports cars are a little – well, a lot – more expensive than the other ones. Here, we present our list of the top 10 most expensive sports cars in the world. Grab your sunglasses and a good playlist, because we’re about to take you on a ride!
Number One: Maybach Exelero – $8 Million
Finally, the most expensive sports car in the world is the Maybach Exelero, which was purchased by the rapper Birdman in 2011 for $8 million. The car produces 700 horsepower and has a twin turbo V12 engine and can allegedly go from zero to 60 in just over four seconds. Thanks for reading, and remember to always drive safely!
Number Two: One of the Most Impressive Sports Cars – Lamborghini Veneno Roadster – $4.5 Million
What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini than with this sweet special edition of the Lamborghini Veneno? Only nine of these beauties were made in 2014, and they boast a top speed of 221 miles per hour.
Number Three: W Motors Lykan Hypersport – $3.4 Million
Kicking off the top three on our list of the most expensive sports cars is the W Motors Lykan Hypersport, which costs $3.4 million. This super-sleek car has a theoretical top speed of 245 miles per hour and has – get this – diamond-encrusted headlights and taillights.
Number Four: Lamborghini Sesto Elemento – $2.2 Million
Lamborghini’s Sesto Elemento boasts a 5.2L V10 engine and produces 570 horsepower. The car is made mostly of carbon fiber, making it extremely lightweight. Only 20 of them were produced between 2011 and 2013, and they were all designed to be driven on a track.
Number Five: Koenigsegg CCXR – $2.173 Million
For $2.173 million, a Koenigsegg CCXR could be yours! What’s interesting is that the 1,004-horsepower car is actually environmentally friendly because it uses ethanol biofuel, unlike its cousin, the Koenigsegg CCX.
Number Six: Ferrari 599XX – $2 Million
Much to nobody’s surprise, another Ferrari makes the number six spot on our list. The 599XX produces 720 horsepower and is so impressive it’s not even street legal! The car completed one lap of the Nordschleife circuit in Germany in just six minutes and 58.16 seconds – the circuit is 20.83 kilometers long.
Number Seven: Aston Martin One-77 – $1.8 Million
Costing a whopping $1.8 million is the Aston Martin One-77, which produces 750 horsepower and boasts a V12 engine. Only 77 units of this car were ever put up for sale.
Number Eight: Koenigsegg Agera R – $1.6 Million
This beauty first entered the markets in 2011 and has a theoretical top speed of 273 miles per hour. It can go from zero to 62 miles per hour in less than three seconds and has set a land speed record for two-speed production cars. The Koenigsegg Agera R costs $1.6 million.
Number Nine: Ferrari LaFerrari – $1.4 Million
For $1.4 million, you can have a Ferrari LaFerrari! This impressive and extremely conspicuous car was first produced in 2013 and has a 6.3L V12 engine with a 120kW electric motor. The car is technically environmentally friendly (it’s a hybrid, after all), but we’re guessing nobody’s buying it for the environmental impact.
Number Ten: Porsche 918 Spyder – $845,000
Kicking off our list is the Porsche 918 Spyder, currently priced at $845,000 (for the 2015 model). The 918 Spyder is a hybrid and produces 887 horsepower with a 4.6L V8 engine – plus two electric engines.
